House Mswati III – A home fit for a king

In 2016, we started working on a concept for King Mswati III’s home for first lady, Inkhosikati LaMagongo. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more fitting location for a royal residence. Situated in Swaziland’s Ezulwini Valley – also known as the ‘Valley of Heaven’, this contemporary home with upmarket finishes suits both its surrounding and its occupants perfectly.
A round ring beam, 6.5 metres high is supported by reinforced concrete columns. Flush glazing facades on the north and east elevations frame beautiful vistas of the Mdzimba Hills surrounding the valley.
On the west side, the glazing area was reduced to counteract the harsh afternoon sun. The south façade consists of a 9 metre cantilevered porte-cochère supported by two 40mm stainless steel rods.
The forecourt includes parking for eight vehicles while the royal palms that surround it provide guests with ample shade. An exquisite open-air roof entertainment area provides a 360° view of the valley.
Suspended from the reinforced concrete ring beam, sits the main bedroom in a round, glass box – making it the jewel in this modern, architectural crown.
